Ismail Abu Hatab was a Palestinian photographer, filmmaker, and founder of ByPa (By Palestine) from Gaza, whose work powerfully captures the resilience, grief, and spirit of a people living under blockade. Through his lens, he documented not only the visible destruction of homes and lives, but also the unseen emotional and cultural impact of displacement and conflict. His photography was deeply rooted in personal experience, offering an unfiltered look at daily life in Gaza with humanity, honesty, and urgency. As both a visual storyteller and filmmaker, Abu Hatab brought to light stories that were too often overlooked—transforming individual suffering into collective memory and resistance. Ismail was martyred in the bombing of Al-Baqa Cafe on June 30, 2025. His work with ByPa will continue through his brother Ahmed Abu Hatab.
