Aghinor Asteriadis’ Flower Shop A’ (1975)
I Did Nothing For A Year
And every day I wrote that nothing down.
The time on my hands got way out of hand.
My own lack of self-confidence made me despise an entire country.
France, they could never make me like you.
Who is the real Stella?
I never did find out.
I never could make them like me.
Getting told I was away with the fairies was growing old.
Unlike you, I acted like a starved child
who aged horribly.
When they said,
‘Don’t wear pigtails to work again’,
I didn’t
(I’m no pig).
Like my agoraphobic friend who longed for the city,
the only thing standing between her and her dream was an escalator.
Is.
She could still have it all.
Stella Parker is a girl. She has work published in WREATH and Dream Boy Book Club.
